Celtic Women

We had a great discussion about Bard  Saturday evening.  I’ll post more about it later as I’m only on a quick lunch break from work.  I wanted to share this article – shared by another ADF member on the discussion lists – about a recently found Celtic grave.  It belonged to a woman and is full of finery!  It made me think of the discussion we had about the rights of women in Celtic society.  Very interesting archaeological find!

I think it is remarkable that they could remove it,dug up intact, and encase it in concrete for transport rather than do the dig on site. The find itself shows a high development of culture and governing at an early time in history. It’s very interesting to see that the site was near the Danube where Celts reportedly originated. It will be fascinating to see a comparison between grave goods found here and those found from times closer to our own to see how they may have changed and how they are similar. I’m looking forward to seeing what papers and photos come out of this find. BB, Candee

Isn’t that amazing?! Archaeology has come such a long way. I too look forward to the findings.

I’m interested to see the style of the jewelry and other decorations they find.
